Experience Oakland - “Arts Alive: Art Tours with Live Performances”

On Saturday, October 11, Oakland Art Murmur invites you to celebrate the bold, brilliant, and diverse creativity of Oakland during Oakland Style Week. Join one of two specially curated Oakland Style Art Tours that bring you inside the city’s most vibrant art spaces—each showcasing incredible work by local artists.

From contemporary galleries to artist collectives, every stop will feature a live performance or interactive experience, including dance, music, spoken word, or hands-on art making. Enjoy light bites, a wine reception, and the rare chance to meet the artists and creative minds shaping Oakland’s cultural landscape.

Join artist and instructor Jenn Doyle Crane for a short and lively introduction to the fascinating world of encaustic painting, the ancient art of painting with pigmented, melted wax. Jenn will give a brief overview of the process, demonstrate techniques such as layering, fusing, texture, simple collage, and monoprints and then invite a few participants to try their hand at this expressive medium. Even if you don’t get a turn at the table, you’ll come away with an inside look at a unique art form that blends color, heat, and creativity in surprising ways.

Jenn is a certified instructor for R&F Handmade Paints and teaches monthly workshops at Norton Factory Studios in Oakland, CA. With a focus on curiosity and play, her sessions are designed to make encaustic accessible and fun with no prior art experience required.
